If I was hired by Baruch to use new media to improve college, I would make the following suggestions:
First, Baruch should add more online courses by adopting virtual classrooms, like second life. Instead of coming to the college, we can have a regular class through virtual world. The benefits of virtual classrooms are: it will increase the attendance rate. For instance, those who couldn't come to the regular class because they were sick can still be able to present in the virtual world. Virtual classroom will also promote class participation. It will encourages those students who are shy or afraid to speak up in front of the classmates to have more participation in virtual classroom. Second, I would suggest Baruch to adopt twitter or social networking sites for every class. It will promote collaboration. Students or professors can pose assignments on these sites in case someone missed the class. It also provides a platform for students
to discussing class materials.

This is very interesting thought about virtual classrooms. I think it will be very helpful to those students who work fulltime because they always have busy schedule in college. They can save their travel time because they do not have to come to college to attend the class. However, I do not think it will be nice to post class notes or assignment on social networking sites. In my opinion, it will be good if professors can post their material on page that linked to Baruch website because Baruch website is mostly used by Baruch students whether social networking sites is all worldwide.
ReplyDeleteI think virtual classrooms is very attractive for students who live too far away from school or not fit for their schedule in college. Virtual classrooms will save time or money to attend the class. It will also increase their participation online.
ReplyDeleteI like online class, i took it once and got A, but i still prefer to come to the class and meet people instead of looking at the screen. I think online classes are good for people who has job or family, but communicating in person is always much more better.
